What does it mean to be born again?

God's word, the Bible, teaches us that the only way to have eternal life is if we are born again. That means we must repent of our sin, and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, putting our full trust in Him. Some popular theories today suggest that all paths lead to God, but there is only one way, and only through one person that we can be reconciled to the Father. Read More

New Relationship in God our Father.

Mark 3: 31-35

31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. 32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

This passage of scripture was penned by /mark. In this passage of Scripture he focuses on Jesus in His beginnings of his ministry.

Mark had the unique privilege of being a traveling companion of the apostles Paul and Barnabas during their missionary journeys but more so with Peter who was an eye witness of the Lords work in his discipleship.

Mark probably wrote this earliest gospel after Peter’s death in around 65 AD. So he used his experience of talking and learning from Peter and also would have had his preaching material or memoirs to start this Gospel account.

Thus we have an account in which Mark gives a comprehensive view of this part of the life of our Lord, more so then in the other Gospels.

Look back in Mark verse 21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. They went out to seize him ~ not his disciples but his family who probably heard rumours coming back to them with the slander the Jewish leaders were saying about the Lord beforehand healing, driving out spirits and forgiving sins.

His family thought he had gone crazy, well I think his brothers thought this because they weren’t supportive of his ministry before his death and resurrection. See (John 7:5)

I don’t think Mary would have had that attitude but possibly thought her son would be overwhelmed by the multitudes. Perhaps she wishes to take him home out of the excitement and strain so that he might have a rest and proper food. She would have known it was his time to do the work of His father in heaven. His father Joseph had most probably died by this time.

In verse 31 we see the lords mother and his brothers arrive. There must have been a massive crowd with the family not being able to reach the Lord. So they must have tapped on someone’s shoulder and asked to pass the message down through the crowd to say that Jesus mother and brothers wanted him.

So down the crowd near Jesus someone said” hey Jesus you mother and family are asking for you to come and speak with them.

We see in Chapter 4 verse 1 where it says “ He began to teach again’ that Jesus was bust teaching the crowd in that crowd there would have been people from many backgrounds including disciples, apostles, Jewish leaders and the general public who were seeking to know more of this man Jesus.

In verse 33 the eyes of the Lord must have delighted at this opportune moment to witness as He looked around Him ~ looking into the eyes of those who sat around Him, the disciple’s, apostles, Jewish leaders and the rest of the crows. He answered them,Who is my mother, or my brethren?”.

As He looked around probably with his hand out in the direction of the people, He said “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother”. That is my family He says. Not determined by blood but by spirit. It is a burden for us when our own blood family members are lost and don’t know the Lord. We see the Jewish leaders here under the cosh in danger of damnation, and the lord is inviting them to be part of his family.

It is extra special when you know your blood family are saved ~ there is a closer bonding. As born again believers we have a close, beautiful bond being as we are one in Jesus, bonded together in the family of God by his love of us.
